Platters Award

Paul Roos Wine Platters Award 2020
  • Die Skoolhoof Chenin with 18% chardonnay adding a lemony note in 17 (92 points), while maintaining the distinctive earthy tinge to the good fruit. Lively and fresh, with fine (natural) acidity, but also weight and texture; sweet-fruited elegance and dry, lingering finish
  • Die Filantroop Bright, clean aromas on 17 (91 points) blend of 72% shiraz with cab and pinotage (no merlot this year). 13.5% alcohol and touch richer and riper than previous, but properly dry and still a feeling of restraint. Whole berry, natural ferment. Well and firmly structured, should benefit from keeping.
  • Susan This 16 (91 points) a once-off tribute to Susan Roos, with Filantroop’s varieties but cab now in the lead (64%). Tobacco aromas and more obvious sweet fruit is the result and charming too, but still a serious structure.
